Each frame carries its score along with the focus, light, framing and style values behind it, plus its timestamp and resolution. The reasoning is visible, which means you can disagree with it.

You always know the source

Every frame is labelled as either the original still or one extracted from the motion. The two differ in quality, and that difference should never be a surprise.

Export as photo, video or GIF

HEIC, JPEG or PNG for stills. H.264 or HEVC for video. An animated GIF for chats and anywhere video will not play. Motion frames can be upscaled 2× or 4×.

Questions

How many frames does a Live Photo actually hold? +

Up to around ninety — roughly a second and a half of motion captured either side of the moment you pressed the shutter. Only one of them becomes the key photo, and it is frequently not the best one in there.

What does the score mean? +

Each frame is rated on focus, exposure, framing and style, together with face-related signals such as open eyes and smiles. The number summarises those, and the individual values are shown beside it so you can judge for yourself.

Can I choose a frame the app did not recommend? +

Yes. The ranking is a shortcut, not a gate. Swipe through every frame and save whichever one you prefer — the recommendation never blocks anything.

Why does it matter whether a frame came from the motion? +

The original still is captured at full quality, while frames pulled from the motion component are lower resolution. The app labels the source of every frame so the trade-off is visible before you commit, and motion frames can be upscaled 2× or 4× to compensate.

Can it turn a Live Photo into a video or a GIF? +

Yes. Convert to H.264 or HEVC video for posting, or to an animated GIF for chats and anywhere a video will not play.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere? +

No. Both the analysis and the conversion happen on the iPhone. There is no cloud step and no account to create.
